Raja Taj Muhammad Khan
Raja Taj Mohammad Khan was a
social worker from the Jandari area of Dir Upper, with connections to Lamoti.
Raja Taj Mohammad was a selfless person who didn't need any recognition. He was
the first to step onto the field to promote tourism in the Kohistan region. In
the 1990s, Raja Taj Mohammad took the initiative to eliminate the poverty of
his area and provide employment opportunities to the people by supporting the
tourism industry. He invited several important personalities to promote
tourism. It's worth noting that Raja Taj Mohammad had good relations with many
important people from the beginning because he was very generous and famous for
spending more on guests than his own income. Raja Sahab worked very hard for
the development of the area's infrastructure, but there are some of his deeds
that will be remembered for centuries. His famous achievements include:
Hashmi Museum
Along with Tours & Promotion,
Raja Sahib became very focused on an important and necessary task: to preserve
the old, traditional, and cultural heritage of his area. This work was very
challenging, difficult, and required patience because the local people were
already against Raja Sahib. In his share, Raja Sahib built a museum on a small
piece of land and then began collecting the rare and valuable objects that were
disappearing in for centuries. According to Raja Sahib, he picked up wherever
he saw the old items used in the past and even bought many things from his own
pocket. He started this journey 35 years ago, which now stands before us as a
complete museum. Along with the cultural heritage of the Kohistanians, the museum
includes old guns (which the then Duke of Dir distributed in Maliks of the
regions), household utensils, musical instruments, wooden chairs, eating and
drinking utensils, wooden shoes, and much more. It is undoubtedly an invaluable
treasure trove for archaeologists and researchers. The museum is often referred
to as Hashmi's museum, which is visited by thousands of people every year.
Raja Guest House
Along with the Hashmi Museum,
Raja Sahib has also built a guesthouse which is called Raja Guest House.
Tourists and guests can spend the night for free at Raja Guest House, no fee or
money is charged, but if someone wants to give something voluntarily, it's
fine. There are also many tents available at Raja Guest House and if there are
more guests, they are provided with free tents. Raja Guest House is located in
Jandari, which is a small village in the mountains, about eight kilometers away
from Lamoti.
Jandari does not have any facilities for
living, so Raja Sahib's guesthouse is no less than a blessing for tired
tourists. After spending the night at Raja Guest House, tourists can head to Jehaz
Banda in the morning. One has to walk to Jehaz Banda as there is no road available
yet. After spending the night at Raja Guest House, if a tourist guide or any
other facility is requested, Raja Sahib immediately provides it.
Jehaz Banda Alpine Rest House
With the help of Raja Sahib, a
doctor from Lahore who often comes to Jehaz Banda has built a beautiful rest
house in the Jehaz Banda. Two rooms and a kitchen, bath, and other amenities
have been built in the rest house.
It was named as “Chamerin Cottage". The name of the rest house is a combination of two words: "Chamerin," which is a word from the Kohistani (Gawri) language meaning "iron," and the second word "Cottage," which is an English word meaning a small house. Therefore, the meaning of "Chamerin Cottage" is "Iron Cottage."
